Since our country is on the way towards shipbuilding power, the shipbuilding enterprises should not only compete with their hard power like equipment size and labor costs, but also put emphasis on constantly improving their soft power, like technology, management and industrial chain coordination ability with some supporting enterprises. With the proposal of “Made in China 2025” and “Integration of Informatization and Industrialization” and other national strategies, our country has gradually accelerated the informatization and modernization of shipbuilding industry. As a new generation of information technology, the Internet of Things technology is widely and well used in industries, it also meets the urgent needs of the transformation and upgrade of shipbuilding industry in our country. With the application of the Internet of Things technology to the material management in shipbuilding enterprises, it can achieve real time identification, orientation, and tracking of the specific material, which can reduce the material management cost, optimize the allocation of resources, improve the product quality and enhance the production efficiency. It will become an important internal driving force to the leaping development of the shipbuilding mode in our country and push the shipbuilding industrial moving forward to intelligent production.Base on such background, this paper focused on the study about how to apply the Internet of Things technology to the shipbuilding enterprise material management system, the main research contents and results are as follows:(1)This paper will conclude the characteristics of Internet of things technology according to the analysis of the architecture, stratification and other related theory of Internet of things; it will also find out the related technologies that can be used in the shipbuilding enterprise material management through discussion of the key technology of Internet of things and elaborate their characteristics; it will divide the Internet of Things into five stages according to its development trend and look forward to its application in shipbuilding industry along with its development.(2)According to the characteristics and content of material management, this paper will focus on the analysis about warehouse management and pallet assembling and distribution management process and conclude the problems existed in shipbuilding enterprise material management during these processes; it will also analyze the requirements of resolving these problems combined with Internet of things technology.(3)This paper gives a reasonable classification of the shipbuilding materials and discusses the applicability of bar code technology, RFID technology and other automatic identification technologies to different materials based on the material characteristics. A set of solutions regarding the shipyard warehouse management is designed based on internet of things technology, which can realize the simplification, streamline, standardization, and highly efficient of the warehouse management; In consideration of the material properties and characteristics of the pallet, choose appropriate information identification technologies to optimize the pallet production and installation process in the shipyard logistics management, so as to ensure the accuracy of the pallet assembling and the efficiency of pallet distribution.(4)Take the shipyard steel management system based on Internet of Things technology as an example, verify the application of the technology to the shipyard material management; demonstrate the importance of the technology on improving the material management efficiency by actual data.
