Research On Performance Effects Of Resource Synergy Under Environmental Dynamism

Innovation resource is an important source of sustainable competitive advantage. More and more firms focus on innovation as competition intensifies. However, as the main driving force of a new product?s commercializing, innovation resource needs complementary resources such as manufacturing complementary resource, marketing complementary resource, human complementary resource to generate profits, as well as enhancing the firm performance better. Most researches on the relationship between innovation resource and firm performance have not yet study the influence of the complementary resources. In addition, the firm?s survival and development are under certain environment, and the environment is one of the important contingency variables which firm must face. Therefor, from the perspective of complementary resources, this paper explores the performance effects of different types of complementary resources and innovation resource synergy and the moderation of the environmental dynamism which is combined with c ontingency theory.Using panel data of A-share listed companies of China's high-tech industry in 2007-2013, the paper conducts an empirical research on the performance effects of complementary resources and innovation resource synergy. And on the basis of these results, the paper investigates the moderation of the environmental dynamism.The results show that the synerg y of different types of complementary resources and innovation resource has a significant positive effect on the firm performance, which says that the synergy of complementary resources and innovation resource enhances firm performance. The effect degree of the marketing complementary resource and the innovation asset synergy and the human complementary resource and the innovation resource synergy is relatively large, and the effect degree of the manufacturing complementary resource and the innovation resource synergy is relatively small. The environmental dynamism has a significant positive moderation on the performance effects of the manufacturing complementary resource and the innovation resource synergy as well as on the performance effects of the marketing complementary resource and the innovation resource synergy. The environmental dynamism has a positive moderation on the performance effects of the human complementary resource and the innovation resource synergy, but it is not significant. This shows that the higher of the environmental dynamism, the greater of the positive performance effects of the synergy of complementary resources and innovation resource, and the more obvious of the advantage of complementary resources.
