Phased array radar has a significant effect on target tracking for the agility capability of its beams and the controllability of its resources. The characteristics of the targets in motion change in real time.In order to maintain its stable tracking, the radar system is required to adaptively allocate system resources according to the surrounding environment and target motion characteristics. However, the resources supporting the radar system to complete various tasks are usually limited. At present, the researches on how to more effectively allocate the beam pointing, dwell time, and revisit time in phased array radar for tracking are not sufficient. Therefore,in order to reduce system resource burden and ensure target performance, more algorithms about beam pointing and time resource management in phased array radar for tracking need to be excavated.Aiming at the resource optimization problems in phased array radar for tracking, this paper studied the resource management methods in phased array radar and optimization theory, and then put forward some effective beam and time joint allocation algorithms. The main contents are as follows:1.In order to solve the resource optimization problems in phased array radar for tracking, the relationship between resource and tracking model is studied, and then the posterior Cramer-Rao lower bound(PCRLB)with resource variables is derived. The simulations verify the feasibility of using PCRLB as a tracking performance index to achieve resource allocation.2.Aiming at the problem of beam scheduling and dwell time allocation with multi-beam mode of phased array radar, the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)of echo signal and PCRLB with resource variables are derived, and then a optimization problem which is to minimize the total dwell time on all targets while trying to make the tracking accuracy of each target satisfy a pre-designed requirement is established. Finally, this paper proposes a two-step decomposition algorithm to achieve the beam and dwell time allocation after proving the optimization problem is nonconvex.Simulation results demonstrate the validity of the strategy we proposed in resource saving and performance improving.3.Aiming at the excessive resource load and poor tracking accuracy problems caused by the unreasonable allocation of dwell time and revisit time in tracking, this paper derived the resource load and tracking performance criterion models with the dwell time and revisit time variables, and analyzed the relationship between resource load and tracking performance. At last, this paper propose a allocation algorithm that first obtain the beam revisit time and get the dwell time next to balances the relationship between resource load and tracking accuracy. This algorithm achieves resource saving while ensure the target tracking performance. The algorithms mentioned above are tested by simulations. And the simulation results show that the proposed joint resource management algorithms have significant effect in saving tracking resources and improving target tracking performance.
