A Strategy Research On Hosts' Advice In The Radio Emotional Consultation Programs

A radio emotional consultation program features listeners consulting the hosts on emotional questions by calling the hotline and the hosts providing reasonable advice.This kind of program not only takes social responsibility but also has certain social effects.However,many hosts cannot get effective information quickly in the program or use an inappropriate way to give advice which leads to a low acceptance of listeners.So far,there has been a lack of research on such kind of program.The broadcasting knowledge and the pragmatics theories were applies in this paper,the hosts' advisory discourse in the emotional counseling program was regarded as a complete behavioral process,it was discussed in separated phases on how to guide the audiences to ask questions and how to provide guidance to audiences,so as to give help to hosts of other radio emotional counseling program.The research materials were chosen from two main radio emotional counseling programs,one is named Ye Wen has something to say,the radio listenership of which is the highest in China at present,the other is named Jinshan Night Talk which was established earlier.The advisory discourse of the hosts in two programs was the corpus of this paper.In this paper,the radio emotional counseling program was defined,the development and the functions of such kind of program was outlined and the context of the hosts' suggestions process were analyzed from three aspects,the caller,the audience and the space-time transmission.Firstly,with reference to previous research,the proposal process of the host was divided into guiding phase and suggesting phase.The purpose of guiding phase was to help callers clarify the problem.The purpose of suggesting phase was to provide suggestions for callers and the audiences.Secondly,the guiding phase was divided into two situations according to the statement of callers,clear requests and vague requests.With the application of discourse analysis theory,when the callers made clear requests,the strategies applied were listening strategy,affirmative strategy,repetitive strategy and summary strategy,when the callers made vague requests,the strategies applied were asking strategy,supplementary strategy,correcting strategy and questioning strategy.Thirdly,the suggesting phase was divided into suggesting callers and suggesting general audiences according to the purpose.On the basis of suggestion on speech act theory,critical strategy,requirement strategy,advising strategy,prompting strategy,heuristic strategy were applied to suggest callers,and example strategy,reasoning strategy,heterogloss strategy were applied to suggest general audiences.Lastly,statistics in the usage of each strategy and the audience acceptance of each strategy were collected,the effectiveness of different proposed strategies were sorted.In addition,this paper made a summary on the proposed strategies that were applied by the hosts in the guiding phase and suggesting phase from the perspective of proposed process.The corresponding solutions were put forward,so as to provide references to the hosts of radio emotional consultation program.
