The establishment of a control and protection system for the automatic test is one of the important conditions to ensure the safe and stable operation of the gyrotron travelling wave tubes(gyro-TWTs).It is of great importance to provide a stable output power in the normal working state of a gyro-TWT during a long operation time(over several hours).Automatic test of a gyro-TWT is a powerful tool for debugging and maintenance of the system.We use the industrial control platform to achieve data acquisition and remote control for the system including the high voltage power supply,low power meter,oscilloscope,spectrum analyzer,signal generator and so on.The system software platform uses LabWindows/CVI as the development platform.The device drivers used in the automatic hot test of gyro-TWT are developed by the VISA function library and TCP/IP or the other special communication protocols.It is based on the method of modularized development.In addition,the PID adaptive feedback control is applied to simulate the process of the beam voltage and current rising automatically to the goal value step by step.The scheme can get a stable output power.This paper mainly focuses on the research of a control and protection system for the automatic test of gyro-TWT.Firstly,the present status of researching on the gyro-TWT and the technology of the automatic test software applied to the vacuum electronic devices are introduced.The improved hardware design scheme is introduced in detail by explaining the components of the automatic test system and comparing the difference between the original and the improved test system.On this basis,we select LabWindows/CVI as the software development platform of the system by comparing a variety of automatic test software design scheme according to the hardware and user demand.Then,the software architecture for the system and the function design of every module are given.The key point of this paper is the design of the upper computer software.My major research work was as following.1.The functions of real-time data collecting and displaying for each equipment used in a control and protection system for the automatic test of gyro-TWTs are realized by using a multi-threaded implementation in LabWindows/CVI.2.The remote control of the oscilloscope,spectrum analyzer,signal source,low power meter and high voltage power has been completed by using VISA software standard and network port communication.3.Based on Active and dynamic link library,the Excelreport library function provided by LabWindows/CVI development platform is used to complete the function design of parameters setting and storing by communicating with the Excel.4.The process of the beam voltage and current rising to the goal value is simulated by the PID adaptive feedback control.And the software function of the full-auto test module is designed and the deviation of the experiment is eliminate.Finally,The capability of the model has been proved by experiments.
