Wireless sensor networks(WSN)are usually composed of millions of resource constrained sensor nodes. The collected data is transmitted among nodes through self-organizing mutil-hop routing communication, and the sensor nodes can be deployed in unattended environment to collect valuable data of interest. Many mature applications of WSN are applied in various professional domains, including health-care monitoring, military surveillance, natural disaster prevention and industrial monitoring etc. However, how to guarantee the security of the collected data is a primary issue, especially some collected data which is confidential highly.Furthermore, considering the feature of the resource-constrained of WSN,This thesis focus on how to combine the biometric with user authentication of WSN on the condition of securing the collected data,a user authentication and access control protocol should be designed to keep high-efficiency of the entire network.Firstly,an access and authentication method for WSN Based on Iris Biological Feature is proposed. The proposed method introduces a third party serve to achieve user identity authentication, which includes user ID and message timeliness authentication. Moreover, the proposed method can detect liveness of user according to user's iris images.According to encrypted user's iris feature, the user's privacy is protected. The proposed method also achieves the mutual authentication between user and gateway, which can guarantee the security of network resources effectively.Theoretical analytical result shows that the proposed method with higher safety performance than that of the traditional access authentication methods.Secondly,a biometric-based user authentication scheme for heterogeneous wireless sensor networks(HEWSN)is presented. In the beginning, the biometric information is handled by fuzzy extraction and hash function, the biometric key is obtained. Then, the biometric key is used to replace the traditional password, user isn't required to input password and acquires the convenience. The proposed scheme also achieves the mutual authentication among user, gateway and sensor nodes. At last, comparing to the relative scheme, the proposed scheme is more suitable for HEWSN in the practical application. Finally,an improved three-factor user authentication scheme for wireless medical sensor networks(WMSN)is proposed. The proposed scheme reviews briefly the He and Kumar et al.'s scheme, which titled “a robust anonymous authentication protocol for WMSN”,and the security flaws of the He and Kumar et al.'s scheme is analyzed in detail. To overcome these security flaws, the biometric is brought in and an improved three-factor user authentication protocol for WMSN is designed in the proposed scheme. The result indicates that the proposed scheme is more high-efficiency and security than the He and Kumar et al.'s scheme in three aspects that are security functional features, computational cost and communication cost.
