The development of Internet applications,Cloud Computing technologies and Internet of Things technologies are driving forces of society revolution. Therefore, underlying network services have become an infrastructure which supports modern life.To meet the growing requirements of new technologies and new applications, operators, cloud computing vendors and enterprises are investing heavily on network infrastructure in recent years. However, how to effectively use infrastructure resources while maintaining high profitability is still challenging these companies. The maturity of SDN technology, the development of NFV technology and the idea of network service orchestration provide a new solution to this problem. The SDN and NFV technologies can be integrated in the network service orchestration system to flexibly deploy network functions according to service requirements and uniformly manage and monitor the device behavior of the data plane.Such orchestration systems automate service and resource scheduling, provide agile service deploy capabilities, support for future innovative network applications, and dramatically reduce CAPEX and OPEX.Therefore, network service orchestration systems have become a new research and practice direction for operators, cloud computing vendors and research institutions. However, the varied needs of vendors make the existing network orchestrator architecture and implementation usually very complicated.Such complexity does not facilitate the research and validation of problems in network service orchestration, but rather causes researchers to devote a great deal of energy to the implementation of network orchestrators that is not relevant to the problem to be researched.Relying on the National Key Laboratory equipment research project"Network Definable Virtualization Switching Network Platform",this project tries to design and develop a Lightweight Network Orchestrator, focusing on the core orchestration processes, which provides a platform for creatively solving potential problems in orchestration.Specifically,a Lightweight Network Orchestrator architecture is proposed in this thesis.Proposed architecture provides graphic interfaces for users to create network service templates and to run and monitor service instances.Proposed architecture centralizes orchestration logic to perform workflow management and resource selection for service instances.Proposed architecture integrates SDN technologies for network forwarding behavior control and NFV technologies for virtualized network function control to provides unified orchestration capabilities over different network services.Furthermore, the design and development of NFV Orchestration Subsystem in the architecture is described in this thesis. To consistently describe and manage different virtual network functions, this thesis defined supported VNF packet format and developed VNF instance state and operation management mechanisms. To consistently orchestrate different types of infrastructure resources, this thesis designed and developed integration and resource abstraction method for the NFV infrastructure.Based on test results, implemented NFV Orchestration Subsystem provides abilities to orchestrate virtual network functions in network services. This subsystem meets the needs of designed Lightweight Network Orchestrator which provides platform support for research and validation of orchestration problems.
