The successful application and development of millimeter-wave solid-state system are greatly determined by the system output power.Compared with the electronic vacuum devices,solid-state power amplifiers have several advantages:the lighter weight,smaller volume,lower working volt and longer working life.Its disadvantage is that it has the smaller output power.Methods for combining output powers from a number of solid-state devices have been extensively studied in order to obtain high errand higher output power.The approach of power combing is an effective solution for greater output power.In recent years,many kinds of methods for combining output powers have been proposed,analyzed,discussed and applied.This has greatly motivated considerable research activities to develop efficient power-combining circuits.In this thesis,the basic theory of an amplifier,commonly used device,many methods for combining output powers and matters needing attention in the amplifier design are introduced,And the personal opinion is put forward.In this thesis,a Ka-band high density and high efficiency solid power amplifier was developed.Based on NEDI's five watts GaAs power devices and a 64-way combiner,.A novel waveguide-based spatial power-combining circuits and structure have been used.Detailed theoretical study,unit circuit design,electromagnetic simulation and experiment study have been discussed more in-depth..An 200-W power amplifier was developed with 13%additional power efficiency,and the combining efficiency was over 75%.Further investigation combining efficiency should be increased.And a higher frequency band should be developed such as 3 millimeter wave band.At the same time,using the instrument design of solid-state power amplifier is also needed to focus on the field as a new generation of semiconductor devices has become increasingly mature.
