Moore's law is now slowing down,as the transistor size is much closer to the physical limits.Integrated Circuit development gradually began to shift to a more pragmatic direction,which can satisfy the market demands by using system in package(SiP)technology.This technology is considered to be a way to solve the problem of Moore's law which is known as "More than Moore".The SiP with thin portable,multi-functional,low power consumption,high integration is often a complex integrated system,the power reliability problem in system will directly affect the operation of all chips in SiP.With the rapid development of semiconductor,the demands for ICs are moving to low voltage,high current and high current slew rate.All these issues have made it more challenging in the power distribution network(PDN)design and power integrity(PI)analysis for the SiP,therefore,the simulation analysis method for the system design is very important.Based on the related theories of PI and models of the PDN,an automatic optimization method for system PDN decoupling network design is very hopeful.The main idea of this method is to first use equivalent model of the PDN to calculate the PDN impedance,to then use Frequency Domain Target Impedance Method(FDTIM)to optimize the numbers of decoupling capacitor which can meet the requirements of power supply noise tolerance.The issues of PI problems related to the SiP is first discussed in this paper,the equivalent model of various parts in PDN system is next concluded,the package interconnection and SiP power/ground plane is then studied,the novel PDN modeling based on the lossless cavity power/ground plane,and a new calculation method of the Least Required Quantity(LRQ)for decoupling capacitor is then developed.The results of a PDN example with the developing automatic optimization method are finally gained and compared to the ones of the other existing methods.With the automatic optimization process and a PDN example,the quantities and types of decoupling capacitors can be first gained;The time domain voltage fluctuation on load and the noise distribution is then simulated by ADS and Hyper Lynx,respectively,with selected decoupling capacitors;The simulation result shows that the design with the automatic optimization process can meet the requirements of noise tolerance.
