With the rapid development of the modern wireless communication technology in the world,there are higher requirements of the portability,miniaturization and versatility to wireless devices.However,antenna has almost become the most bulky component in the wireless communication system,limiting its further development.Antenna-in-Package(Ai P)is the ideal method to realize the miniaturization of the dielectric antenna.With the technology of System in Package(Si P)or Three-Dimensional Multi-Chip Module(3D-MCM),it can be able to improve the integration,reduce the dimension and achieve the versatility of the radio-frequency(RF)system by integrating antennas,RF chips and other electronic components into a whole framework.Meanwhile,Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramic(LTCC)maintains a strong compatibility to the manufacturing of Ai Ps because of its high dielectric constant,low dielectric loss and achieving the three-dimensional interconnection conveniently.This article has carried on the design and research of the RF Antenna-in-Package system based on LTCC technology.Firstly,with the antenna theory,a novel multi-band Ai P based on ladder-type stacked structure is designed.It can work for 2.4GHz band,3.5GHz band and 5.8GHz band applications in wireless protocols of the IEEE 802.11 and IEEE 802.16.Secondly,the three-dimensional electromagnetic filed simulation software HFSS has been used for modeling and simulating the designed Ai P.The results show that the reflection coefficient is less than-10 d B at 2.41~2.48 GHz,3.47~3.55 GHz and 5.66~5.89 GHz,the maximum gain at the center frequency of each band are 4.91 d Bi,6.05 d Bi and 6.07 d Bi,and the radiation efficiency is above 90% across the operation frequency band.Finally,the interaction between multi-layer radiating elements and the independent tunable ability have been analyzed.Furthermore,detailed parameters studies of the Ai P are also presented by the control variable method.Generally,the designed Ai P has the advantages of good radiation pattern,high gain and high efficiency.It also has multi-band and low cross polarization characteristics,so it can be applied to the wireless communication field such as Bluetooth,WLAN and Wi MAX.
