Every citizen has "identity" in social life.Identity is the symbol and identification for a citizen to distinguish from others in all kinds of social activities.In the realistic society,every citizen have two identities,"the first identity" is the personal identity lies in the private life,while "the second identity" is the social identity lies in the social life.In today's society,with the rapid development of the Internet communication technology and its wide popularization and application,the function of the Internet is no longer confined to information transfer and sharing function at the beginning of its invention,it has successfully transcend the limit of time,shorten the distance of the space,and becomes the mutual communication and interactive media.The Internet has evolved into a "Virtual Society" where people's identity is also changing subtly and profoundly.Now,in addition to the private life space and social life space in the realistic society,the development and popularity of the Internet creates a new third life space for people,that is network virtual social space.The Internet users have not only the personal identity and social identity in the realistic world,but also have a new identity called "the third identity" which adapts to the activities in network virtual society.Citizens' "third identity" is a kind of network media identity,which has been called the digital identity,terminal identity or online identity,etc.in the current academic circle,refers to a new identity with features such as virtuality and anonymity,and develops with the support of network media technology in the background of "identity reorganization" in information age,who's activity space is the new network virtual society constructed by the digital revolution."The Third identity" embodies as the virtual identity and anonymous identity in activities of network communication,and profound changes has taken place in its connotation and extension when compared with the traditional identity.In this thesis,a relatively new and comprehensive study of citizens "third identity" is conducted with the combination of the traditional identity theory of sociology and new perspective of communication research.And it rethinks the communication practice performing by Chinese citizens using the "third identity" combined with the theory analysis of citizens "third identity" and the reality of network communication in our country.According to this thesis' research strategy and the inner logical structure,the full thesis mainly divides into three parts:The first part is theoretical overview.Analyzes citizens' "first identity" and "second identity " in realistic life on the basis of sociology and social psychology,and brings forward the study object of this thesis,namely "the third identity" in network virtual life.Then,analyzes the popularity background,basic identification,essence and characteristics of "the third identity" on communication study level,specifically evaluates its communication significance.The second part,Specifically analyzes two basic forms of citizens,"virtual identity" and " anonymous identity ",and discusses internal relations between "the third identity" and the real identity and its detailed embodiment in the Internet communication environment.Then,on the basis of empirical investigation of network communication psychology and network communication behavior,combined with the investigation data and analysis,respectively analyzes Chinese citizens' communication psychology and behavior when they use the "third identity" in network.The third part,mainly rethinks the communication practice performing by Chinese citizens who use the "third identity".First,specifically analyzes the realistic influence on communication level,social level and individual behavior level caused by Chinese citizens' using of the "third identity",then on the basis of this,conducts a rational analysis and reality reflection on its communication activity,social influence and code of conduct.The basic view of this thesis is: with the development and popularity of the Internet communication,a whole new virtual social space has produced.In real life space,every citizen has two identities: "the first identity" is the personal identity on the level of private life,"the second identity" is the social identity on the level of social life level.In the network virtual social space,citizens own the new "third identity" different from the traditional identity.Citizens' "third identity" has two basic characteristics,that is virtuality and anonymity.In the process of Internet communication,Citizens show several social psychological characteristics such as realistic compensation,safety anxiety and passive blindly follow while using their "third identity",and it accordingly generates positive or negative behaviors.In today's era,network virtual social space has become an important part of most citizens' living environment.To optimize the network virtual social space,reduce or eliminate the negative factors,integrated governance must be conducted in the social supervision,citizens' self-discipline and law supervision,etc.
