Study On Symbolic Construction And Media Mobilization In Social Movement

Mobilization in social media is made mainly by emotional mobilization,which can be divided in arousing memory,arousing emotional resonance,mutual infectivity,and emotional eruption.By presenting symbol,giving meaning to symbol and symbolic transmitting,the construction of symbol is finally built.Because the symbol in social media has features of fragmentation and banter,the building of the topic cannot be easily dug in,and it may reduce the movement's meaning and appeals.Symbolic integration can remedy this defect,which can integrate the fragment,building an agreement in larger field,and making rational mobilization.A lot of symbols,with strong infectivity and mobilization force,were found in Candle Light Movement in Korea,like tools,personalized banner,slogan,song,and performing protest.All of them had the resistant from the participants and were expressed in the form of symbolic rhetoric.The construction of symbol in social movement is the result of media mobilization,which has different influence at different stage in social media and mass media.Social media constructs symbol at the beginning stage,but mass media constructs at mobilization stage.To attract the viewers' attention and broaden the movement's influence,the participants construct symbol by media mobilization.They spread symbols which can arouse the viewers' emotion,inspire emotional resonance.During the widely discussion,the symbols are given meaning.Transmitted by meme transmission and opinion leader in social media,the symbol's spreading is accelerated.The construction of symbol is finished during the process of social media.“Candle light” in Candle Light Movement in Korea was not only an important tool,but an expression of maturity,rational and nonviolent movement.The candle became the symbol of Candle Light Movement,agglomerating common sense and accelerating mobilization.In conclusion,symbolic construction in social media is a strategy that can attract attention from social media and the public.It can benefit the construction of collective identification,accelerating media mobilization.
