In the 1920 s,Japan established a batch of academic institutions to study China in order to serve the increasingly aggressive activities in China. So far,Toyo Bunko, belongs to the institutions, has become one of the largest Asian libraries in Japan.Baron Iwasaki Kuya, who purchased the Morrison library from Morrison in 1917 and expanded it on its foundation,to organize the Toyo Bunko which has now become one of the three Sinology Research Center in Japan.Toyo Bunko currently has collected about 1 million books, and mainly includes historical documents from all over Asia(Vietnamese,Thai,Arabic,Farsi,Turkish, etc.),including Owen Datas and three categories of Chinese books.Among them, there are 5 points of national treasure, and 7 points of the important cultural heritage,as well as a lot of valuable data, these are the world's leading treasure trove of Asian literature. As a special library and research institute of China as the main research object,in fact, the ideology and value orientation of Toyo Bunko are influenced by "Great East Asia China" and " Mainland Policy ",such as dividing the research of north and northeast from Chinese department to classify it as the "Northeast Asia Research Department";and including the study of Tibet in the Central Asia, etc.,all these reflects the reactionary political tendencies of pre-war Toyo Bunko that is absurd. Moreover, the source of pre-war books was mainly based on Japanese aggression in Asia, plundering the cultural resources of Asian countries, and bringing cultural losses to many Asian countries. The text of this paper is divided into four parts. The first part mainly analyzes the establishment and transformation of modern Japanese Sinology, and discusses the background of the establishment of Toyo Bunko and the reasons of the reactionary political orientation. The second part mainly introduces the establishment andexpansion of Toyo Bunko. The predecessor of Toyo Bunko was the Morrison library, which was bought by Baron Iwasaki Kuya from Morrison in 1917,and then, extended the collection of books all over the Asia on its foudation, and finally became a consortium in 1924.Today,Toyo Bunko as the research center of Japanese Oriental Studies, not only for Japanese scholars, but also for the world's Orientalism researches providing precious materials and a stage for skill shows; The third part introduces the characteristic collections of Toyo Bunko from two aspects of Toyo Bunko's collections and other Asian countries literature. In the Toyo Bunko collections, the Chinese works collection occupies 40 %,including 5 points of the national treasures(Mao,the Spring and Autumn Annals,Historical Records,Anthology Variorum, and ancient various copy books of minister),7 points of the important cultural property(Rites of Justice, the Analects of Confucius, ancient minister copy books,Christian Creed Book, and John Saris' Nautical Diary),and all kinds of precious materials(635Oracle cieces,3000 Chinese chronicles,860 Chinese genealogies,13000 points of Tibet,Mongolia and the "Koran" copy in the second half of fourteenth Century, etc.),these treasures are very precious not only in Japan, even in China. In addition, the documents of other languages of Asia is very rich in Toyo Bunko, which mainly has included Korean,Thai,Farsi,Turkish,Arabic, etc.,contained the important diplomatic documents and various newspaper clippings of these countries; Those are also the important data about the history and politics in southeast Asia. The fourth part is the summary and evaluation of the collection of Toyo Bunko. The rich collection resources of Toyo Bunko have provided convenience for the research of scholars in eastern study, which promoting the development of orientalism in the Japan and the world, but on the other hand, because of the reactionary ideology and value orientation of pre-war Toyo Bunko, makes it " aggressive" in its pre-war activities, such as pillaging the cultural heritage from other Asian countries backed by Japanese forces, which has caused great losses to those countries as well as to their people.
