Research On Human-Machine Interaction Design Of Urban Traffic Variable Message Sign

In the process of urbanization,urban traffic problems appeared and became increasingly serious.Information technology has made the urban intelligent transportation system(UITS)possible and alleviated these problems.In UITS,the reasonable distribution and design of the variable message sign(VMS)can provide the road users with a more timely and abundant information.The system also plays a positive role in the safety and efficiency of the road network.Currently,a few domestic VMS design researches are done and a detailed standard design guideline is inadequate.Subsequencially,VMS is chosen as the object to study.In order to understand the profile of VMS and human-machine interaction(HMI),an investigation on the VMS's development,the various types and technology was conducted.Additionally,a detailed survey on the HMI's content and development was initiated.Hence the relevant standard documents at home and abroad were consulted.Then by using literature referring,depth interviews and field investigation and other methods,the author found the existing problems and corresponding design focus.Based on the design focus,the design content of VMS is teased out.The investigation included distribution,appearance,screen display and information design.For distribution,the design principle of urban traffic VMS's location and its frequency are put forward.In terms of VMS's appearance,the choice of support mode,space position and screen size are carried out.In the aspect of the screen display and the information design,what and how to design are carried out.The screen display consists of display time,bilingual display mode,etc.Furthermore,the information design contains text information,graphic information,etc.According to the design contents and principles,the author then selected the traffic system of Shahekou District of Dalian City to carry on the corresponding design practice.In this thesis,the HMI design of urban traffic VMS is studied and the content and principle of VMS are put forward.On the basis of above work,to verify the practical and theoretical value,suggestion from experts,who fully affirmed,is solicited.Through the application of interdisciplinary theories,the results indicate the interaction between VMS and road users is more rational.Not only will this thesis offer assistance for the practical application in the future,but also it provides references for the coming related research.
