The clutter distribution in non-sidelooking airborne array radar is usually range-dependent and not independently and identically distributed(IID).Moreover, the freedom of the full rank STAP is usually high in practice and the number of the training samples that are IID is insufficient seriously, which results in the degradation of the accuracy of the covariance matrix estimation and the performance of the traditional Space-Time Adaptive Processing(STAP)algorithms declined sharply. To solve the above problem, this paper discussed the STAP technique for non side-looking array airborne radar. In order to handle the range-dependence of the clutter distribution in non-sidelooking cases,an novel RBC method is proposed, which improves the accuracy of the covariance matrix and the reconstructed data by using adaptive balanced loading separately during the process of reconstructing data and registration compensation. And the validity of the algorithm is verified by simulation. The clutter distribution in non-sidelooking airborne radar is usually nonhomogeneous, which results in the lack of IID training samples.Firstly,a clutter compensation method based on maximum detection range(MRBC)is proposed, which compensates the clutter characteristics of all training cells according to that of the farthest range cell. Then the Space-Time Autoregressive Filtering method is applied to the MRBC compensated data, which resolves the sample lacking problem.Simulation results show that the proposed methods can significantly improve the performance of clutter suppression in mainlobe with small sample support.
