A Study On The Works Written By Lin Binggong

Lin Binggong(1862-?),his style name Jueming,has several literary names such as the old man fishing in the Cang River.He,the scholar in the late Qing Dynasty and the book collector,was born in Taiping Zhejiang Province.Although he is a modest person without the noted fame,he has abundant works.The existing works are as follows.Lao-tzu Suo Wei is considered as his only academic work in a strict sense.Manuscripts of poems in Jiao Yin,a total of 610 pieces with one poem only containing the title,chants the sights of mountains,shows his intercourse with his friends,and is the concentrated reflection of his life tracks.The work spans a large range and contains complex contents,which are commentaries on the classics,interpretations on politics,argumentations,prefaces,epitaphs,and so on.Commentaries on the classics and interpretations on politics in the first five volumes of the work are the concentrated reflection of his academic achievements.The supplementary on the literature of Taizhou,a sequel of The Literature of Taizhou by Jin Benheng,is helpful to understand the origin of Confucian development in Taizhou.In addition,he has some collections of scatted works,such as The Existing Poems of Literary Masters in Hua Mountain,Tai Ping Collections,etc.The existing writings reflect both his life and academic achievement,and reserve a large amount of local literature,which provide abundant valuable documents for the study of Taizhou local culture as well as the development of literature.However,the present studies often ignore the person and his works.So the author intends to make a thorough study on Lin Binggong.The thesis is divided into eight chapters.The first chapter is the introduction,which mainly discusses the origin of the selected topic,research status,research purpose and significance,and the innovation.The second chapter talks about hisfamily background and biography mainly according to his existing works.His four works are introduced from the perspective of philology from the third to the sixth chapter.This part involves the characters of different versions,contents,the style,the time of completion,the value of literature.Based on the relevant works,the seventh chapter introduces his collections of scatted writings and the check of ancient books to supplement the lost writings and inadequacies of Lin Binggong's Works and the Check of Ancient Books by Qian Ruping.The eighth chapter narrates the problem of his collection of books.It explains these problems according to the relevant contents of the existing works.The author endeavors to reveal Lin Binggong's academic achievement and contributions to the preservation of local literature through the preceding research.
