Nowadays mobile devices are corroding the PC market,and mobile Internet is rising rapidly.Users' Internet behaviors contain not only browsing pictures and text,but also streaming media like audio and video.However,due to the limited bandwidth and unstable condition of mobile network,the quality of transmitting streaming media is hard to be guaranteed.Therefore,a solution to improve playing streaming media is in a desperate need.HTTP Live Streaming(HLS),which is developed by Apple Inc for iPhone and iPad,is a kind of responsive streaming media protocol based on HTTP.HLS encode the source media into several streams with different bit rate,and clients are able to switch among alternative streams according to their network condition.As the number of iOS devices grows,users sharing streaming media by HLS will increase either,and thus research on its optimization is quietly significant.The research of this subject includes four parts as follows:learn HLS protocol draft,and understand the rule of segmenting and indexing;decrease the payload of server by optimizing the process of downloading index file and media file;increase the speed of loading media files in clients by making client model and applying P2P technology;select proper techniques and platform to develop software,and make a test case to analyze system performance.Finally,compare the result with current techniques and draw a conclusion.
