The Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) and the Global Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) are gradually replacing the old wired network model, which have raised new demands for antennas. The design of multi-band antenna applied to both WLAN and WiMAX wireless communication standard has important practical significance. The work of this paper is to design multiband WLAN/WiMAX antennas. The main research work is as follows:Firstly, the development course and current situation of WLAN /WiMAX are introduced, and the research purpose and significance of this paper are explained.Secondly, the important basic concepts of antennas are introduced,which is the theoretical foundation of this paper.Then, the common antenna types and multi-band techniques are analyzed and discussed, which provides the technical guidance for the follow-up antenna design.Finally, based on the printed monopole antenna, three kinds of printed monopole antennas for WLAN / WiMAX are proposed and researched. They are composed of nested double rectangle ring structure,multi-branch loading parasitic patch structure and rectangular ring loading. And their performance meets the requirements of 2.5GHz /3.5GHz / 5.5GHz resonant frequency point of WLAN / WiMAX wireless communication system and they all cover the required 2.4-2.69GHz,3.4-3.69GHz, and 5.15-5.85GHz three working band. In addition,antennas designed have a compact size which is less than 40mm * 40mm.
