With the rapid development of the wireless communication systems, the development trend of antennas are miniaturized, wideband and multi-band. Ultra-wideband technology is a new technology for indoor communication and radar location, which is working in frequency bands from3.1GHz to10.6GHz. Multi-input Multi-output antenna technology can improve the system capacity without the need of extra frequency bandwidth. In order to support a variety of wireless communication protocol, the antennas of the mobile terminals should be multi-band. With the advantages of low cost fabrication, low profile, and easy integration, printed antennas are widely used. To sum up, It has theoretical significance and application prospects to do the research and design of the miniaturized UWB/UWB-MIMO/Multi-band printed antennas.This paper firstly introduces the research background, significance and the current domestic and foreign situation of the miniaturized ultra-wideband and multi-band printed antennas. After that, designers can get a clear direction and goal. Secondly, this paper introduced1) the electric parameters evaluating the antenna performance,2) simple structure of printed monopole antenna,3) its common feeding technology,4) the numerical methods in computational electromagnetics and the electromagnetic simulation software. In the third chapter, the design of ultra-wideband antennas is described. Two printed UWB antennas are proposed. The fourth chapter introduces the MIMO antenna technology. A UWB-MIMO antenna which has two elements and occupies a small size is presented. The main content of the fifth chapter is the design of a multi-band antenna. A tri-band printed monopole antenna is proposed for WLAN and WiMAX applications. This antenna has a compact size, simple structure and omnidirectional H-plane pattern. Finally, the work is summarized, and the future design of printed antenna is discussed.
