Recently,IP multicast is very popular in enterprise network,more and more industries such as enterprise communication,network education,bank,etc.are using IP multicast as solutions for various applications.However,RFC4364 presents a kind of scalable VPN architecture which is MPLS BGP/VPN,it can let service providers offer layer 3 VPN service for enterprise customers,and separate unicast routes and data forwarding.In this case,we need to pay attention to how to use this VPN architecture to offer tunnel for multicast service transmitting.For service providers,the benefits of using multicast VPN are that it can support customer multicast traffic using RFC4364 VPN infrastructure,and there will be a scalable architecture based on native IP multicast in the core.For customers,the benefits are(1)PIM adjacency with PE routers but without CE-CE overlay tunnels;(2)multicast configuration changes are not required in customer networks;(3)existing customer multicast deployment is not affected,such as PIM modes,RP placement and discovery mechanisms.This thesis presents the overall design of multicast VPN for the router which is the main product in the company where I work as an internship after analyzing and researching multicast VPN related RFC documents such as RFC 6037,RFC6513 and RFC6514.Based on analyzing the multicast VPN using multicast domain,the multicast VPN related protocols such as PIM and BGP are analyzed and extended,forwarding plane,intra-AS and inter-AS multicast VPN member discovering procedure,customer multicast routing information advertising,etc.are described and designed in detail,and operation examples of each modules are described.In the end,an experiment is made on the routers that are made by the company to prove the validity of this resolution.
