Design And Implementaion Of Performance Evaluation System For Virtual Machine In IaaS

With the rapid development of Internet and Cloud Computing, IaaS industry grows fast. The performance of IaaS Virtual Machine (VM)attracts more and more people's attention. But there is no unified standard in performance evaluation of IaaS VMs. On the one hand, users of IaaS VMs don't know the actual performance of the VM, which leads to the great blindness when renting IaaS VMs. On the other hand, IaaS Cloud providers have not enough knowledge of performance details among different cloud platforms to improve their own platform.To solve the above problems, the universal IaaS performance evaluation system is designed and implemented in this paper. This system provides IaaS users and IaaS cloud providers with automated performance tests, VM management from cross IaaS platform and multi-dimensional test results. On the one hand, this system helps IaaS users to understand the actual performance of each IaaS cloud platform before renting a VM so as to rent proper IaaS VM that meets their requirements accurately. On the other hand, this system helps IaaS cloud providers to compare the performance among other IaaS platforms, in order to discover the performance bottleneck of their platform and provide users with better services.Firstly, the research background and related concepts of cloud computing are introduced, especially on the importance of IaaS performance evaluation. Secondly, based on the investigation of related works of IaaS performance evaluation and the shortage of traditional performance measurement methods, the functional and non-functional requirements of IaaS performance evaluation system are brought forward.Next, the design and implementation of IaaS cloud performance evaluation system are described in detail. In the end, the effectiveness of the IaaS cloud performance evaluation system is verified by a set of tests.
