The electrical interconnection network has become the bottleneck of further increasing the performance of data center(DC)due to its poor scalabilities of interface bandwidth, switching capacity and port size, large network latency and high power consumption. On the contrary, optical interconnection network has the inherent advantages of large capacity, low delay, low power consumption and multiple switching dimensions, and thus has been widely recognized appropriate for future DCs.On the other hand, network virtualization is one of key technologies in the DC because it enables multi-tenant service provisioning which helps to improve the utilization of resource. Therefore, how to implement the virtualization of optical network efficiently for data center has become a hot research topic in the field of DC and optical communication. To this end, this thesis studies the virtualization of optical network in DCs,and some key techniques including the optical interconnection network architecture, the control framework for network virtualization as well as the extensions of cloud operating system(OpenStack),and the virtual optical network mapping strategies, are discussed. The main contents and innovation of this paper can be summarized as the following:1)An optical interconnection network virtualization mechanism is presented for our previously demonstrated all-optically interconnected metro distributed DC architecture. This mechanism is implemented by cooperating the OpenStack cloud platform with the optical network SDN controller through Restful interfaces, and enables to efficiently control the computing resources, storage resources and network resources of the DC.2)The process of virtual data center(VDC)provisioning, the strategy of VDC mapping,as well as the mechanisms of virtual machine migration to support resilient and highly efficient VDC services, are investigated in the scenario of optically interconnected metro distributed DC.Meanwhile, the OpenStack related extended functions are also developed in order to support the above-mentioned designs. And we verified the feasibility of the proposed virtualization solutions through the experiments of VDC creation and virtual machine migration.3)Upon virtual data center mapping, the splitting and migration of virtual link helps to improve the success rate of VDC mapping and then can improve the utilization of physical resources. So an algorithm of VDC mapping that supported virtual link splitting and migration is proposed, and simulation results show that the algorithm could improve the success rate of VDC mapping.
