In recent years,virtual reality technology has been developed rapidly and has been widely used.Virtual assembly is a typical application of virtual reality technology in traditional manufacturing industry.The traditional virtual assembly needs to import and modify the models repeatedly between the virtual assembly system and the three-dimensional modeling software.In the process of assembly,if the model can modify its shape and parameters by itself,and the user can also use 'his/her hands' to design the shape of model,which will greatly shorten the design cycle of product,improve production efficiency and can bring users an intuitive interactive experience.Therefore,the deformation technology of virtual assembly is an important research direction of virtual assembly.There is a great significance to improve the level of manufacturing industry in our country.The research content of this paper is the deformation technology of the parts in the virtual assembly process.Based on the analysis of the existing 3D object deformation technique,this paper proposes a method of deformation based on weighted average normal for virtual assembly.This method can realize the deformation of 3D object by changing the position of the vertices of the mesh model.In the process of deformation,this method uses the weighted average normal as the deformation direction and uses the Gauss distribution function to calculate the moving variation factor of the mesh vertices,which can make the deformation more real and smooth.In the last of this paper,a intuitive interactive system based on Unity3D and Leap motion is developed to verify the effectiveness of this method.Through the validation of intuitive interactive system and the results of experiments,we find that this method is simple to implement and has good effect of deformation,and it is a theoretical basis for further research on virtual assembly modeling technology.
