Thermal fault diagnosis for substation equipment plays a key role in preventing power grid accidents.Infrared detection technology has been widely used in status monitoring and thermal fault diagnosis for substation equipment,but it is still applied by staff carrying infrared thermal camera for regular inspection,and it has low efficiency and can not find thermal faults in time.This paper researches the methods of image denoising,image segmentation,feature exaction and image recognition that image recognition needs,and the method of thermal fault diagnosis for substation equipment,then applies the research results to the infrared image recognition and thermal fault diagnosis simulation system for substation equipment,and lays the foundation for the realization of real-time thermal fault diagnosis for substation equipment.Firstly,by analyzing the characteristics and the common noise of infrared image,this paper proposes the improved wavelet threshold denoising method for the deficiency of the traditional one,and proposes the denoising method that median filtering combined with the improved wavelet threshold denoising to remove the mixed noises in substation equipment infrared images,the effectiveness of which is proved by the experiment.Secondly,this paper proposes the modified region growing algorithm according to the characteristics of substation equipment infrared image,the effect of segmentation is better than the traditional one's,and it segments the edge of target equipment combined with edge detection and mathematical morphology method.In the next step,according to the phenomenons of image rotating,scaling and translating are possibly occurred during the process of obtaining substation equipment infraredimages,this paper uses Hu moment to extract the shape features of substation equipment,then uses the support vector machine(SVM)to recognize the substation equipment infrared image,and the accuracy is high.Finally,this paper designs the simulation system which uses the thermal fault diagnosis method based on relative temperature difference method according to the infrared temperature measurement technology,and it realizes infrared image recognition and thermal fault diagnosis for substation equipment.
