A majority of existing wireless sensor network(WSN)design is network centric, and focuses primarily on low power, reliable sensing data collection and transmission. As WSNs have been widely used and commercialized, user operation burden becomes an important aspect affecting the successful deployment of WSNs.This thesis develops a user-centric WSN middleware based on the user-centered design principle,to support rapid development of user-centric sensor node firmware, which can adjust the behavior of sensor nodes according to user operation input. As such, the user operation efficiency can be greatly increased.Firstly,a user-centric programming model is proposed,in which design philosophy, node configuration strategy and configuration correction verification algorithm are discussed in sequence.Based on the proposed programming model,a user-centric development environment and node middleware were developed, and the node reconfiguration procedure is discussed. Finally, the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed method are verified through an experimental study.Experimental results show that the proposed sensor node middleware can quickly respond to users' requests to run corresponding functions, and incurs modest memory overhead. The major advantage of the proposed sensor node middleware is that it can greatly reduce the development overhead of building user-centric sensor node software.
