Based on traditional carriers including Internet, telecommunication networks, and so on, Internet of Things (IoT) provides intelligent services for people through the interconnection and integration of the physical world and the cyber space. One of the key challenges in IoT development is how to connect the Internet and Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), and further improve the efficiency of communications. However, the networking, addressing, and communications in traditional WSNs mostly use locally defined numbers as the identifiers of nodes, which work well in local WSNs, but are with poor efficiency for internetworking.Information-Centric Networking (ICN) is a promising issue of the future Internet architecture. The innovative ideas of ICN, such as named content, named routing, and in-network caching, are also suitable for WSNs. In this thesis, we apply the idea of information-centric network architecture, and combine the data transmission features of Named Data Networking (NDN) and WSNs. Then, we propose an internetworking protocol for WSNs, including the well designed strategies of data naming, routing, and caching. Based on Telosb sensor nodes and the embedded system TinyOS, we implement the protocol stack and verify its effectiveness. We also evaluate the communication performance through TOSSIM simulations.
