Purpose:The glucose monitoring of experimental animals is important in the study on diabetic pathology and pharmacodynamics. At present the main glucose monitoring method for laboratory animals is in vitro discontinuous measurement, which is easy to induce hyperglycemia in the animals, and affect the accuracy of experimental data.Meanwhile, repeated operation and much of the experimental personnel is required to obtain enough experimental data. Therefore a glucose monitoring device which can continuously measure the glucose need be designed to assist the experiments.Content:The device was designed to be fully implanted into experimental animals for continuous glucose measurement, with one implant procedure and no external components outside the body. The system included an in vivo implant part and in vitro data receiver, which could communicate across the surface. The weight and volume of the implant was controlled within the range to suit the animals' physiological status. The in vitro part generated the wireless power supply, transmitting the energy based on magnetic coupling resonance to the power receiver of implant, and glucose data reception. The implant part of the system conducted blood glucose measurement, and wireless information communications between the in vivo and in vitro part was carried out via Bluetooth technique. Methods:This paper carried on the requirement analysis according to the functional circuit of the system and system function module division. Each functional circuits of the device were designed. The electric energy receiving part of the implant received the electric energy transmitted by the external launcher and drove the blood glucose measuring module via rectifier voltage regulator module to carry out the physiological signal detection. The blood glucose data detected by the implant was transmitted and processed by Bluetooth 4 wireless to the external part for processing and display. Conclusion:The size of implant is 11.5mm*5mm*16mm,and the weight is 2.57g,which meet the implant requirement. In vitro experiment results showed that the system can be used to measure glucose concentration in 2-34mmol/L range accurately(R2=0.9967),with mean standard error of 0.193nmol/L,sensitivity of 9.4nA/mM,and it meets the requirements of the blood glucose measurement accuracy. In addition, the wireless power supply module of the system is verified by experiments to ensure normal operation of the implant within 0-15cm transmission distance.
