Based on TV narratology and other relevant theories,this paper does research on the artistic features of Time Together Across Strait——Memory Across the Strait series(hereinafter referred to as “the memory across the strait”),a TV talk show program broadcast on CCTV-4.Different from the available studies in which talk show program is placed on a par with other TV programs,this paper analyzes three major narrative artistic features including story construction,TV dialogue and TV strategy of “the memory across the strait” on the basis of fully grasping the characteristics and TV narrative artistry of TV talk show program,in order to deepen its studies.With the 177 episodes of “the memory across the strait” broadcast during 30 July 2013 to 30 September 2016 as a complete sample,this paper does selective research on 30 of the episodes,and makes an explicit discussion on the narrative construction,dialogue analysis and narrative strategy adopted in the series around three major narrative subjects——“dialogists——disseminator andaudience”,“dialogue content——information and effect”,and “manner of dialogue——medium”.The research in this paper falls broadly into three parts: Part 1 researches the narrative style of “the memory across the strait”,as well as the story construction that characterizes TV talk show program.Also,this part carries out a distinctive research on the function of the “central discourse” in the story constructed with characters at the core and the means of plot extension in the story constructed with events at the core,to distinguish between the characteristics of “witness” and “person in the know” in characters' “central discourse” in narrative discourse;analyze the three construction means by which plots are extended in “the memory across the strait”,which are sequencing element“the end echoing with the beginning”,connecting element “suspense setting”,and contrasting element “rhythm setting”.Part 2 combines the basic theory of TV communication with Bakhtin's dialogue theory to discuss one narrative artistic feature of “the memory across the strait” that is embodied as a transition from the narrative style to dialogism,and analyze the equivalence between dialogical relationship and “disseminator-audience” relationship,to provide a new perspective for research of TV narratology.Also,this part aims to define narrative subjects in the program,and analyze the relationship between the narrative subjects from the perspective of dialogue.Part 3 expounds the time-space narrative style of “the memory across the strait” by emphatically analyzing four major features: first,beginning-focused narrative time: puts forward an idea that “the discourse time of a story is shorter than the story time”;second,a “narrative space” that features internal and external co-construction: researches the internal and external co-construction-based spatial narrative in “the memory across the strait” as well as its features;third,this part analyzes the reconstruction of historical discourse in “the memory across the strait”;fourth,this part researches the narrative strategy adopted in “the memory across the strait”,namely from personality proposition to the discourse of others,from the perspective of “dialogue with audience”;analyzes how the position in dialogue and the orientation of the program facilitate a dialogue with history and audience.
