Study On The Practice Of The Citizen Journalism In Taiwan:Organization,Text And Movement

The practice of "citizen journalism" mainly includes three aspects:organizational level,content level and social movement level.These three aspects are the logical starting point of this study.Combined with specific cases,this paper conducts a comprehensive study on the practice of "citizen journalism"of its operation mode,narrative type,as well as the relationship with social movement in Taiwan,using the methods of literature analysis,text analysis,case analysis and other research methods.This study finds that:The "citizen journalism" media of different business models have adopted differentiated citizen participation methods based on the consideration of organizational structure and professional norms."Citizen Journalism" practice under the public model is the most thorough one;due to limited funding and size,commercial/independent model take "citizen journalism" more as a supplement or "ornament".The traditional news "gatekeeping" mechanism could still be found in the "citizen journalism" website,but in a relatively imperceptible way,such as:the editorial department could convey or strengthen their attitude standpoint and value judgments through the "Recommended"or "Chosen" function.In addition,"citizen journalism" shows the characteristics in line with the platform which it belongs to,and to some extent,this is the product of a stable operation of the latter.As for narrative text,"citizen journalism" is an important type of mechanism for people participating in public expression and constructing social significance.By analyzing the case of "the expropriation of the farmland in TaiPo village",this paper believes that there are two kinds of claims in the "citizen journalisrn" report on a conflict event:emotional appeal and interest demands,which are realized by constructing the suffering narrative and the antagonism narrative.The suffering narrative appeals to emotions,looking for social support,while the antagonism narrative demands "we group" justice,calling for social mobilization.And it's worth noting that,"citizen journalism”with irrational emotion expression or interest demands may easily converge with binary opposition populism.Taiwan's social movement has always been tangled with various political forces,and an independent public sphere out of politics has not been formed,which reflects the complexity and fragility of Taiwan's "civil society".In this social context,"citizen journalism" as a media force,comes into the social movement field,which contributes to the promotion of the "political democracy" and social progress.But on the other hand,influenced by "blue-green" ideology and "left-wing thoughts" in Taiwan,"citizen journlism" has the potential to be used by political forces to seek political resources.
