What persistence and pursuit we animation should have is exploring the traditional uniq ue local cultural characteristics,which will be used as background of animation.A culture th at is national is also international.The unique art form of regional culture is also the cornerst one of Chinese animation school.Called Pengcheng in the ancient time,Xuzhou,as the hometown of Emperor Liu Bang,is the origin of the Han Culture,with Mausoleum of the Han Emperors as the core and stone engravings embodying rich connotation,noble and elegant styles.Stone engravings of the Han Dynasty,Suzhou Garden and stone engravings of six dynasties in Nanjing are known as Three Cultural Treasures of Jiangsu Province.Numerous Han cultural sites remain myriad stories,forming the unique connotation of Xuzhou Han culture.The viewpoint of Studying Han culture at Xuzhou in historian circle fully affirms the status and characteristics of Xuzhou Han Dynasty culture,highlights the main points of the culture of Xuzhou.This project combines the elements of the Han culture with modern cartoon images.The beautiful scenery,customs and people of Xuzhou are expressed by the film language.It mixes the ancient mysterious arts with the present popular modern images.A new form of artistic expression comes into being.It has a practical meaning in using animation to express the Han culture in Xuzhou.The present research mainly includes,1.Exploring the artistic characteristics of Mausoleum of the Han Emperors and the stone engravings and their influences on Xuzhou landscape architecture.2.Calls from My Hometown,an animated short,tells the story that DaFeng struggles intrepidly with Chang Jiao who forcibly occupied his home.The Animation is organized by four ACTS.With the plot advancing and roles' performance,the animation shows DaFeng's bravery and Chang Jiao,s greediness.The animation also highlights the beauty of my hometown,the grace of Xuzhou gardens and the local customs and culture.3.By using the Flash software,I finished all the pictures in traditional hand-drawn way.And I finished editing and synthetic work by using After Effects software.Each animated styles is different.Establishing personal image and aesthetic thoughts,employing an appropriate method are the key points of this project.I confirm the combination of the traditional culture and animation art by making an animated short--Calls from My Hometown.
