The rapid development of Internet communication has a huge impact on the traditional press:advertising performance and circulation continued to decline,industrial model which has run for hundreds of years is on the brink of death.As a consequence,many media have declared bankruptcy;The Internet,however,also provide new impetus for the traditional newspaper industry,many people have noticed the new opportunity for the newspaper industries from the experience learned from digital communication through E-media.New York Times is a digital transformation forerunner among the press,accumulating a wealth of experience and lessons during over 20 years of transformation process,which makes it an excellent representative.In particular,The New York Times established the strategy of "digital priority" and carried out a series of reforms since the year of 2014,which brings the growth in both the number of digital subscribers and digital revenue.Its digital transformation has achieved initial results.Therefore,this article takes New York Times as the research object.The research mainly adopts the literature research method and the case study method.Through the collection,the collation and the analysis of the relevant literature,it combs out New York Times' digital transformation trajectory in more than 20 years.This study is conducted from three aspects:the editing mechanism,driving technology and news products,andwill make suggestions for the digital transformation of our newspaper industry.The study found that the digital transformation of New York Times broke the old habits of news production and established new operating mechanism.It built up a multidimensional newsroom and set off an unprecedented wave of technology in the newsroom,new technologies and new tools have played a major role in its digital transformation process.On the layer of the innovation of the news products,New York Times focus on putting more technical factors into them,to achieve the content of digital production and dissemination."News" is no longer to just provide real-time news reports,but a kind of digital products which provides information services and sensory experience.New York Times' digital transformation has made a considerable series of positive results which laid the foundation to deepen the direction of the transition in the future.With experience and lessons learned from New York Times' transformation,the study also put forward some suggestions for the digital transformation of newspaper industry in China,such as formulating the development of strategic planning,building high-quality content products,establishing the concept of digital production and recruiting digital talents.
