Wang Qi,a well-known writer existed in the year of Jia Jing and Wan Li,had complied many books and devoted his whole life into reading diligently.At the age of thirty-five,Wang Qi became a successful candidate in the highest imperial examination held in the palace under the emperor’s supervision.In the year of his sixty-five,he retired from that official position and returned to his hometown.During his official career for thirty years,he had tried to select and edit,annotate and inscribe for some books among which only a small part of his talent.Wang Qi made up his mind to compile a great historical work and laid foundations for his goal through careful gathering up materials during his working time.In the year of 1585,he returned to his hometown and buried himself into his compiling work totally.In that period,he complied two hundred and fifty-four chapters of Xu Wen Xian Tong Kao,one hundred and seventy-five chapters of Bai Shi Hui Bian,one hundred and six chapters of Sa.n Cai Tu Hui.The number of his compiling and inscribing was so big that shocked people at that time.Counted by the author,the total number of Wang’s compiling works is twenty-four,or over eight hundred chapters.Books have been complied by Wang are divided into four groups here:poems and articles composed by Wang Qi;great works compiled by Wang Qi exclusively;great works compiled by Wang as well as other people cooperatively;great works arranged or inscribed by Wang Qi independently.In order to figure out common points in Wang Qi’s works,the author classified his works clearly and paid more attention to analyzing the compiling purposes,processes,participants,spending time,inscribing and writing things and existing editions.Based on careful organizing,the author finds that Wang Qi’s fruitful success not only benefited from his wealthy family background and large number of books storing,but more at his diligent learning habits and great aspirations aroused by his conscientious awareness to improve the little and large learning style in late of Ming Dynasty to reserve documents at that time and spread the great immortal undertaking.The reason why Wang’s books could be inscribed so successfully was his official position as well as a respectable country gentleman.Meanwhile,good relationships between Wang Qi and local officers had provided potential convenience for his inscribing too.Therefore,Wang was an outstanding example among officers in Ming Dynasty who complied and inscribed books which indicated concrete situations where officers or country gentlemen publishing books. |
