With the development of the communication system, the solid devices of microwave millimeter wave are playing an increasingly important role in military and civilian communications. The study of 3mm frequency source and the power amplifier has become an important research field of millimeter wave technology. With the demand for higher output power and in order to take the advantages of solid state devices in high power microwave millimeter wave systems, the power combining technology taken in this topic is now the most commonly used and also the most effective way to achieve the target.This topic comes from a project of 3mm T/R modules. The whole system is emphatically introduced in two parts, one is a frequency source as a vibration chain in the receiver front-ends,the other is a power amplifier module. In the module of vibration chain, the thesis mainly researches 3mm hybrid integration technology and introduces the theory and the choice of some active devices. In the module of power amplifier,some power allocation principle and selection of synthetic devices are introduced, and then the main factors on the efficiency of the power synthesis are analyzed in theory from the aspects of consistency of the amplitude and phase in this synthetic network.Since 3mm device is very expensive, this paper firstly carried on a preliminary study on power synthesis technology at low frequency which is a completed C band power amplifier with 500W output power. Finally, we developed a 3mm four-way power amplifier using of power synthesis technology which is based on the parameters of the system and the level of the device at present. Furthermore, on the basis of the module of four-way power amplifier, a sixteen-way synthesizer is developed.In this paper, a DRO signal frequency source at Ku band is adopted to expand 6 times to W band. Then we select a suitable synthesis of power distribution network utilizing power synthesis technology to get required index which is needed and the advantages of which are: higher stable output power, relatively smaller noise factor and simple structure. On account of immature technology, MMIC monolithic is considered so that we can realize frequency multiplication gain and reduce the time of the circuit simulation and debugging, the performance is assured at the same time. Firstly power amplifier research is tested at low frequency and then get to high frequency. A synthetic methods called multi-level cascade has clear structure and simple processing. In c-band pre-research project, we choose 3dB hybrid ring. In W band, a new type of claw structure is used through spatial power combining techniques, so a 4-way power amplifier module is made and then we use the same 4 units to get a 16-way power dividing-combining device to solve the problem of high efficiency and synthesis of the high output power in W band.
