In this thesis, the old power combining techniques have been reviewed. The power combining devices and the entire combining system mainly aiming at solid state circuit has been investigated. Some creative ideas have been proposed. The main results are as follows:1. The ingredients limiting power capability and depress combining efficiency in the whole system have been discussed. The infection of the dimension of microstrip line to power capability of devices and the power capability of isolate resistor has been investigated in detail. A high efficiency adaptive power combining technique restraining great degradation in multi-way combining system has been introduced;2. Planar circuit approach mainly based on 2-D method has been described in detail. Method to modify dispersion and fringing effect of microstrip line has been mentioned. Voltage wave equation broadly used in 2-D method has been derived. Green'function approach and contour integral approach have been discussed in detail. Expansions of Green'function in eigenfunctions has been discussed. The impedance matrix of a two way power combiner using sector-shaped planner components has been derived using Green's function approach;3. The solid state power combiner used at microwave and milimeter-wave frequencies has been investigated. S-band and Ka-band power combiners have been designed.
