The radio direction finding is a type of problem using a certain algorithm and equipment to find the direction of the incoming signal. In modern society, the problem has attracted a lot of attention and research with the increase in radio equipments and related chip technology. Especially in this age, so much things are based on radio communications, radio direction in which played a very important role. For example, in the information warfare, passive direction finding are very popular, because this methods only need to receive signals to measure the direction of a single, they do not send signals, which making it have a very high degree of concealment.Based on the problem of radio direction finding, this thesis mainly studies the effective method for both single source and multi-source problem and its realization in high-performance multi-core DSP chip. The main contents of the thesis are divided into the following parts:1. Two basic mathematical models of radio direction are introduced, and the second order statistical characteristics of the received signal are analyzed. This part also discusses the necessity of the estimation of the number of incoming signals. And the estimation of the number of sources is introduced: The information theoretic criterial and the Gerschgorin theorem, and the simulation analysis is carried out to compare their advantages and disadvantages.2. The main methods of radio direction finding are analyzed, and the article divides them into two categories: single source direction finding and multi-source direction finding. In this paper, we study the improved algorithm - the correlation interferometric algorithm for the phase-to-phase measurement method and amplitude comparison method, and then compare the different measurement methods under different conditions. At last the above two algorithms are simulated and analyzed.3. At this part, many algorithms for multi-source direction finding are researched,including MUSIC algorithm, ROOT-MUSIC algorithm, BS-MUSIC algorithm, and MUSIC algorithm based on high-order statistics. The paper analyzes the theoretical basis of the calculation, and carries on the detailed simulation experiment to the above several algorithms. Further more, MUSIC algorithm and BS-MUSIC was used in uniform circular array.4. Based on the above research and analysis of the direction finding method, this part divides the algorithm into modules and analyzes the realization methods of each module in detail. Finally, the number of sources, direction finding for single source and multi-source is estimated in the multi-core DSP chip TMS320C6678.
