As a key component of the missile communication system on the flight platform,the antenna in the system play a crucial role on the quality of communication signals.The profile structure of microstrip patch antenna is low.It has small size and is easy to conform with carrier surface.So the aircraft can fly at high speed while not affect the body's aerodynamic performance,especially suitable for the airborne communication systems.The traditional microstrip patch antenna has narrow bandwidth,narrow beam and low elevation gain,so it can not meet the requirements of high quality communication of modern communication fighter.In this paper,the theoretical research and simulation experiments of the wideband beam antenna applied to the airborne platform are carried out by cooperating with the project of the company.The real environment is simulated and the influence of the platform on the electrical performance of the antenna is tested.The details are followed :At first,we determine the difficulties of indicators and need to pay attention to the details of the antenna's design through the analysis of the project's indicators.Then,the classic method about extending the microstrip patch antenna's bandwidth is summarized and designs of three kinds of broadband microstrip antennas are presented.The optimal design is used as the model foundation and the final missile antenna is acquired by parameter optimization.The results of experimental show that the relative bandwidth of the missile antenna is 12.76%,all the indicators meet the engineering design's requirements.Finally the tolerance analysis of this antenna is given.Similar to the design process of the missile antenna,the project's index of the airborne antenna is also analyzed at first.Then we should determine the difficulties of indicators and need to pay attention to the details of the antenna's design.The classic method about extending the microstrip patch antenna's beamwidth is summarized and designs of two kinds of wide-beam microstrip antennas are presented,The experimental results show that the airborne antenna's half-power beamwidth can be up to more than 170°.All the indicators meet the engineering design's requirements.Finally,the influence of the platform on the electrical performance of the antenna is discussed.The simulation results show that the airborne platform has a great influence on the antenna so that the main beam lobe is compressed and it produces some serious jitters.The experimental results are in good agreement with the simulation results.The effect of the platform on the missle antenna is weak while the influence of the platform on the airborne antenna is relatively severe.Some suggestions about how to improve the next version airborne antenna and meet the index requirements are given in the end of the chapter.
