Micro-strip patch antenna has been widely used because of its simple structure, small volume, flexible feeding and diverse polarization. It's of great importance to research on micro-strip patch antenna. The main contents of this paper are as follows.At first, the theories of micro-strip patch antenna have been introduced such as antenna radiation mechanism, feeding way and analytical method of micro-strip patch antenna. How to expand bandwidth and realize dual polarization is summarized.Then, on the basis of micro-strip patch antenna theories derived above, a dual polarization antenna has been designed with Ansoft HFSS. Its'center frequency is 5GHz in C-band. In HFSS, the antenna index such as VSWR, port isolation, radiation pattern and cross polarization are obtained. The simulated result proves that this antenna is in accord with requirement. A real antenna has been processed and measured. The measurement result and simulation results are identical with each other. The stack patch and hybrid feeding technology is used for expanding bandwidth and increase port isolation. The measurements indicate that the antenna has gotten 40% relative bandwidth and the port isolation is below -30dB.Finally, the effect of mutual coupling between antenna units on antenna performance has been researched while the units arrange in different array pattern (linear array and circle array). We obtain the discipline of mutual coupling and propose a few methods to reduce itThe analyzing results showed above reveal that the wide-bandwidth and dual-polarization antenna which has been designed in this paper is feasible. The measurement results indicate that the antenna performance is in accord with requirements which lays a solid foundation in further engineering of this antenna.
