In the medical field,the rapid development of radiology provides a variety of human body imaging technology for medical diagnostic Such as CT,MRI,US,PET,etc.These techniques provide a rich image data for diagnostic data improving the diagnosis of medical institutions and treatment level.Because of the continuous improvement of medical imaging technology,the resolution of the images will increase.However,the improvement of resolution makes image data becoming bigger.Moreover the problems of image data management,storage and transport have become more obvious brought by the large amount of image data.With the development of computer technology,the hospital is developing towards the direction of the information construction.In the process of the construction of digital hospital,Picture Archiving and Communication System is an important part.The birth of the standard of Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine made the Picture Archiving and Communication System realized and developed.However the space of system storage and transmission bandwidth is always limited.The large medical image data for the development of PACS system has brought certain difficulties and challenges.Due to the particularity of medical images,which doctors have higher request for the image fidelity,it is very important to study the effective image compression method.Because of the higher rates of mammary gland disease among the women in our country,the high resolution of the images of mammary gland,the distinct characteristics of mammography,and the higher correlation between the images.in the paper is mainly to do the compression method research of a single set of Mammography stored in DICOM file format.In this paper,we use run-length coding and Huffman coding compression coding method which in the entropy coding method for mammary gland image compression after studying the principles of image compression technology,aiming at the high fidelity requirement for medical images.Programs of the entire compression method have realized by MATLAB and Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 software.In the experiments,we do the compression on the image of six groups of other organizations with the method introduced in this paper.By comparing the result of the compression ratio,we can see the compression method of mammary gland in this paper is more ideal.
