In recent years, many researchers have done a lot of research in wavelet image compression, and put forward a lot of excellent algorithms, the latest image compression international standard JPEG2000 also uses the wavelet transform. The representation of wavelet image compression algorithm is mainly EZW,SPIHT and EBCOT,etc..Modern information communication systems and computer technology has an important branch of the remote medical. It plays an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of major diseases, disaster relief, especially in the field of field first aid and so on.In this paper, considering the current status of image compression technology, this paper proposes the combination of wavelet coding SPIHT algorithm and traditional Huffman coding to get a higher compression ratio. And it is applied to the processing and transmission of medical image based on the characteristics of SPIHT.And its effectiveness is verified.Firstly, the characteristics and efficiency of SPIHT algorithm are studied.Medical images are often required for burst transmission. If the application of wireless channel transmission is more need to take into account the channel rate is low and the situation is not stable.SPIHT high compression ratio and full embedded features can be very good to adapt to these situations. Then, the study of the mechanism of Huffman coding and its combination with SPIHT algorithm is discussed. The effects of the two algorithms on the compression ratio and the decompression characteristics are studied. Finally, the compression algorithm is extended to more view image data.As a universal image processing algorithm,it can be widely used in many fields of image compression and transmission.
