Infrared imaging technology has been widely used in human life and social production,and infrared image enhancement is one of its' research branches which can improve people's awareness and understanding of the scene and have a huge application potential in the military and civilian areas.Therefore,the study of infrared images' enhancement has important theoretical and practical significance.Infrared image enhancement is the research object in this paper.Firstly infrared imaging technology and image enhancement algorithm is explained.Then the image enhancement algorithm based on unsharp masking is designed and contrast experiment analysis is given out.Finally infrared imaging system's image enhanced improved algorithm verification scheme is set up.By studying infrared imaging technology,infrared images have high dynamic range,small target gray range and low contrast.So it is necessary to propose an image enhancement algorithm,which can improve the visual effect and contrast,enhance the detail feature and compress dynamic range of the image.After reviewing the image enhancement algorithms such as adaptive gain control,histogram equalization,unsharp masking and multi-scale retinex,these algorithms are compared from the aspects of image gray dynamic range compression and detail feature enhancement.In order to evaluate the image enhancement effect more rationally,the subjective and objective assessment method of enhancement quality is introduced.The methods of image information entropy,gray average gradient and peak signal-to-noise ratio are introduced in the objective evaluation method.In order to solve the problem of infrared image enhancement,infrared image enhancement method based on improved unsharp masking is proposed in this paper.Firstly,the infrared original image is preprocessed,which helps enhance the effective information of image and has the effect of image dynamic range compression and gray scale adjustment.Then,the base layer and the detail layer of the image are extracted by using the bilateral filter and general linear subtraction,which suppresses the halo effect.Then the detail layer and the root layer are dealt with adaptive gain control and contrast enhancement operation respectively,which improves the contrast and detail performance of the image.Finally,the generalized linear addition is adopted to carry out superposition to realized image enhancement and the enhanced 255/8bit infrared image is obtained.The method of generalized linear system in the enhancement algorithm can solve the problem of data overflow in image processing.Experimental results with some image enhancement algorithms show that the algorithm has a good enhancement effect on the infrared original image.An infrared imaging system's image enhanced improved algorithm verification scheme is designed.The two different kinds of imaging results of an uncooled staring IR imaging system are enhanced.Through qualitative and quantitative evaluation,the algorithm is proved to be of practical application value.In summary,the proposed infrared image enhancement algorithm based on unsharp masking can improve the visual effect and contrast,enhance details feature information,compress dynamic range of IR raw image,which has practical application value and certain reference significance for the study of image enhancement technology.
