According to the realistic application requirement of the current market, this paper presents the necessity and significance of Q-switch fiber lasers and its unique feature and application fields. Based on the practical usage, the control interface and timing sequence requirement are given. In this paper, a high performance DC-DC converter based laser driver supply is designed with buck structure by using TPS40055 chip of TI Corporation. This driver supply has three output ports with the output voltage of 5 V, 3.3 V and 12 V respectively, in which the output current of 3.3 V and 12 V can reach more than 15 A. Compared with other kinds of filters, a ?-tyPe filter formed by LC circuit is used at the input of the control interface. In this whole system, LCMX02-1200HC-4TG144I/C from Lattice Corporation is selected as the main controller chip. It is a CPLD chip and programmed with Verilog. The operation principle of LD is analyzed. Since LD is a kind of device driven by electric current, its output power can be easily regulated by adjusting the injection current. The fundamental principle of constant current driver is studied. Combining with overcurrent protection circuit, over temperature protection module and optical circuit protection part, we finally design a control system of Q-switch fiber laser and testing its performance and parameters. The testing results of realistic electrical and optical circuits indicate that this system has high stability, good reliability and great efficiency. The function of the system can meet the practical needs.
