In modern industry, in order to satisfy the requirement of high precision measurement of workpiece, many measuring method have been emerging. As the the photoelectric sensor's appearance, the original contact measurement technology is gradually replaced by non-contact measurement technology. In engineering application, parameter of the round steel are changed because of extrusion or wear and tear. The purpose of this paper is aimed to measure the diameter of round steel, and improve the reliability of round steel in the engineering application.System design is divided into the following three modules: In order to improve the precision of the round steel, a high-precision linear CCD sensor TCD1501 and high-speed AD converter TLC5510 is introduced into the design as the core components of data acquisition card, designed the image acquisition hardware system of linear array CCD. Field Programmable Gate Array(FPGA) is used to describe the driven of linear CCD, ADC and USB devices. The image acquisition ardware system transmit digital image signal to the PC machine, the data is received by PC software, PC software use the sub pixel edge detection algorithm to process one dimensional image data, and at finial, obtain the diameter of round steel.After debugging of hardware circuit, the data acquisition hardware system of measurement to the round steel is completed. PC software using Cypress company's USB to connect the data acquisition card, the company provides CyAPI header file and library to help user to complete the PC software design and achieve the data transmission of image acquisition card and PC software. The PC interface is written in the MFC programming environment and the friendly interface provides a convenient for users to observe the image acquisition and measurement results. By testing the system and experimental result analysis, the system could accomplish the basic task of measurement.
