With the continuous development of science and technology, image display system has been widely used in various fields of social life, people's requirements on the system processing speed and display quality are also getting higher and higher. Therefore, researching and designing a more excellent and practical image display system which based on the domestic and foreign advanced design experience has become a hotspot in the field of scientific research. This paper builds a colored,high speed, clear and portable image display system for the typical applications in the field of aviation electronics. The system can overlap display the scenery outside the plane and corresponding flight graphics in real-time.On the basis of analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of the current image display system's frame, this paper has designed a image display system with the core of FPGA. By using FPGA features of parallel execution, rich internal logic resources, the external video signal has been collected and color interpolation processed in this system. Meanwhile, the graphics commands has been received from upper software to generate the corresponding graphics. Through adding graphics cache module and interrupt handling mechanism, the paper firstly has designed a storage structure which based on one DDR2 SDRAM chip, avoiding the occurrence of conflict in DDR2 reading and writing. Meanwhile, it ensures the integrity of the data and the real-time performance of the display in the system; Then, the paper has described the design and implementation of video image acquisition and processing module on FPGA and putted forward an improved color interpolation algorithm based on bilinear interpolation algorithm. The new algorithm improves the interpolation precision through the pixel directional sign; Then the paper has studied the basic graphics generation and fast anti aliasing algorithm in graphic generation module, improved the existing anti aliasing algorithm in the “twist” of small-angle line. The new algorithm reduces the adjacent pixel gray level variation by modified function's uniform correction of pixel gray level. The new algorithm is simple and effectively improves the display effect of small-angle line. Finally, the system has realized overlap display of typical airborne picture and color video image based on the research in system hardware and software structure, color interpolation algorithm and anti aliasing algorithm.The test results show that the image display system can quickly complete the video image acquisition and graphics generation. The color interpolation algorithm and anti aliasing algorithm can effectively improve the display effect and meet the requirements of displaying quality and processing speed in image display system. The system not only has a good performance but provides a feasible technical scheme to airborne image display system.
