With the rapid economic growth and yearly increase in tax revenue in China, information technology of the tax system has also been advanced. The functions of the tax collection and management system have become more mature and comprehensive. The system can handle all practical aspects of tax collection, and has accumulated massive historical data. However, only a limited amount of useful information for management and decision making can be obtained, which does not satisfy the needs of management, decision analytics and others. The Chinese Government has expressed unprecedented attention to and interest in the tax data, which is also evident from the pilot and implementation of "Business to Value-Added Tax Conversion" program and the gradual perfection of local tax systems. We must use scientific methods to perform statistical data analysis in order to support decision analysis.Due to the steady increase in the volume of tax transactions in X province, and that the current transaction-oriented tax collection and management system can only provide simple, straightforward query statistics, the system is far from meeting the needs of management for complicated queries and decision analysis. In order to meet the requirements of management decision analysis, this paper designs and develops, in light of actual tax operations and transactions, a tax revenue analysis platform based on data warehouse technology with improved statistical analysis methods and higher efficiency of data query and statistics.Using the statistical analysis of X provincial tax as an example, this paper mainly includes the following aspects:1. By comparing information technology of tax systems at home and broad in terms of current status and future development, this paper points out current problems in performing tax information data analysis and sets out a clear objective in system design.2. This paper describes the relevant technologies and concepts used in the system development, and how they are used to solve key problems in statistical tax analysis.3. This paper describes the construction of the tax data warehouse. After investigating and organizing the current status and needs in the tax area, we establish the topic domain, data granularity, dimension, and other key issues, for the tax data warehouse. Based on them, the conceptual model and logical model of the tax system data warehouse are designed.4. This paper designs and develops the local tax statistical analysis system based on data warehouse technology. The system uses the traditional three-tier architecture. It is divided into a tax analysis subsystem and a user management subsystem, each of which is divided into several functional modules. The local tax analysis subsystem's main function is to allow for examination and analysis of tax revenue in terms of tax type, industry, company name, region, time, and other dimensions. MDX multidimensional expressions query allow for the sub-tax-type and sub-industry analysis of the tax revenue. Drill-down, rotation and other OLAP operations are supported too.5. We perform on-line starting and operational testing on the tax revenue analysis system. This paper also presents a summary and outlook on potential issues and known shortfalls under testing.By studying and using the data warehouse key technology, this work develops and designs a practical local tax statistical analysis system that makes use of advanced data analysis technologies and business intelligence tools. Its interface is user-friendly and easy to use, and can be easily applied. The system has been implemented successfully in X province local tax bureau. User feed back was great while it was running. The research results of this article can be applied to real tax business systems as technology explorations and actual experience of the tax information technology improvements.
