The diode pumped solid-state laser have many advantages, such as high beam quality,high efficiency, long service life, high stability and reliability and so on. The yellow-green laser which wavelength is 556 nm was widely used in fields such as the medical, the chemical constituents of drug were detecting, two-stage cooling of Yb atomic. It also provide important basis in order to obtain the short wave ultraviolet laser which wavelength is278 nm.In this article, the diode pumped solid-state laser of 556 nm was developed that used the Nd:YAG side-pumped by LD, acoustic-optic Q-switched, LBO frequency doubling crystal and Z-folded resonant cavity. The major of the article has four following parts:(1) The four-level rate equation of the Nd:YAG crystal was analyzed on the foundation of simplified model. It has laid a theoretical basis in order to obtain 1112 nm fundamental optical, and the expressions of laser design programme.(2) The technology and principles of Q-witched has been introduced and analyzed, the equations of Q-switched which meet the experiment needs were selected, and the influence of the Q-switched mode to the parameters of laser has been discussed.(3)The effect of nonlinear optical frequency doubling crystal is described by examining the theory of the second harmonic generation. The laser medium and the frequency doubling crystal suitable for the experimental system were selected, and the correlative theory of the crystal was analyzed.(4) The thermal lens effect of gain medium has been analyzed and calculated, the Z-folded resonant structure suitable for the experimental system was designed based on the ABCD propagation matrix theory to ensure improve the efficiency and stability of system.(5) Based on the above theoretical analysis, the experimental system was established,within the input current was 30 A, the repetition frequency was 10 kHz, the water cooling temperature was 20?, the output power was72 W of 556 nm pulse laser has been obtained,while the peak output power up to 46.75 kW, the optical-optical conversion efficiency was12%, the stability can achieve 2.04% during 2 hours.
