The Research And Realization Of Enterprise Virtualization Datacenter Based On VMware VSphere

With the development of enterprise's datacenter, it faces several contradictions such as low usage rate of servers; servers loading imbalance; hard operation and maintaince because of different devices brands and models etc. Margin of UPS is not enough which cannot afford more high power servers. S corporation management does not accept the project cost which is incurred by datacenter circuit transformation and UPS promotion. Even power supply system for S corporation's datacenter is promoted, datacenter still faces the risk that power supply will reach the bottleneck once again.In this background, IT department for S corporation decide to rebuild datacenter based on virtualization technilogy in order to solve a series of questions with datacenter expandation. Simply say that virtualization technology allows multiple virtual servers isolated from each other running on one physical server. This brings the greatest benefit is to increase physical server utilization. As datacenter virtualization project is completed, most of the physical server can be shut down so that the device power and cooling power will dropp significantly. So problem can be solved in a fundamental. Project using VMware vSphere 5.1 virtualization suite which is developed by vmware the X86 architecture virtualization technology pioneer as the product for datacenter virtualization project. The main jobs for this thesis include the reasearch of datacenter and virtualization technology, comparison and selection of the mainstream virtualization suite, statistics of datacenter existing devices and applications, statistics of project required virtualization resources, making the target of datacenter virtualization project, preparation work before datacenter virtualization project and implementation virtualization system(storage, network,server).With datacenter virtualization project finished, the original 11 servers of S corporation datacenter were compressed on 4 IBM X3650 M4 servers, which directly promoted the usage rate of servers. After shuting down other 7 older servers, UPS margin increased significantly, which allow datacenter can accept more new servers to enlarge the resource pool without transforing the strong electric lines and changing higher-power UPS in the future. Datecenter virtualization also can solve the former datacenter operation and maintenance difficulties. VMware vSphere virtualization suite supplies three advance functions: VMotion; DRS; HA, which respectively solve three problems: application live migration, server loading balance and high availability. In addition virtual machines have same underlying hardware information, so that administrators do not need to consider the configuration differences between different brands and models servers. VMware vSphere Client can make administrators run the datacenter at a glance. Datacenter virtualization greatly reduces the difficulty of datacenter operation.
