Diode Laser(LD) end-pumped Tm-doped laser have a good atmospheric penetrating and human eye safety around 2?m output wavelength. In this paper, the LD pumped electro-optic Q-switch laser have been studied in theoretical and experimental two respects.The main contents are:Theoretically, based on the rate equation model of Tm:YAP Q-switch, we calculated the effect of repetition frequency on output energy, pulse width and peak power. Providing guidance to the analysis of experimental results in the future. Using MATLAB software to simulate thermal focus of Tm:YAP crystal, simulating the optical field distribution and temperature distribution, providing theoretical guidance for the development of experimental.Experimental aspects, combined with the results of theoretical analysis,we selected axis a to cut Tm:YAG crystal which doping concentration is 3at.%, size was 3󫢩0mm3to conduct experiment?We got the maximum power of the laser output with 5.23 W, the slope efficiency was 30.18%, the central wavelength was 1988 nm.Based on this,we conducted the Q-swich Tm:YAP experimental research. By comparing the performance of electro-optical crystal, Finally, we adopted the way that crystal back pressure to do Q-swich,we got an average laser output of 560 m W,under the 5k HZ repetition rate, and the pulse width was102.4ns; At the same time we also carried out an experimental studies of acousto-optic Q-swich, and compared the experimental results with the electro-optic Q-swich experiment results.
