Information technology has brought great changes to the development of economy and human society. The development of modern financial industry depends on the support of financial information technology heavily. The usage of technology in financial industry in foreign country has been in the stage of business integration and intelligent decision making stage for a long time. By the investment of information technology, the business ability of banks in American and European countries has been improved a lot, as well as the rate of return. In the new century, along with the rapid growth of the computer science and network technology, the competition of companies becomes more and more severe. Only those companies who can take the advantage of new technology and replace the old management mode with the new one, and integrate the internal and external production activities can survive in the market. In this background, the portfolio management system is becoming the focus of asset management companies.This paper is based on the development of portfolio management system in financial industry. The system is in allusion to the business requirement of portfolio management. This new system is designed and developed using the new architecture based on WPF, WCF, MVVM and SQL CE. The purpose of this new system is both from the company internal requirement of applying new technology, and from the eager request of new system from our clients as well. The design and implementation of new portfolio management system has fulfilled the request from our clients, and brought considerable profit to our company as well.In this paper, firstly it describes the effect and meaning of applying portfolio management system in the asset management process, and analyzes the current status, the features and the problems of the portfolio management both domestically and worldwide. Then it introduces the new key technology used in the system implementation, which includes WPF, WCF and ActiveX. After that, this paper analyzes the system requirement from the asset management firm's point of view, and gives out the overall goal of the new portfolio management system. For the database design, this paper describes from both of the aspect of conceptual design and logical design. Based on the requirement and database design, this paper describes the detail design and the implementation of the system. Last but not least, this paper shows how to test the system, including the test purpose, test environment, test method, test result and the judgement of the test result.
