Nowadays with the rapid development of science and technology, streaming media technology has been widely used in the world. Since the birth of the first Internet streaming media player, Internet streaming media application is growing enormously. Internet is now mature enough to open up a broad road for the development of streaming media. Streaming media technology has realized the online video on demand, live show, etc. And it is widely used in the news release, remote education, security and other fields. At the same time, the application of streaming media technology also enriched the Internet function and promoted the development and innovation of the Internet architecture. This paper takes advantage of two systems, Windows and Linux. VLC in Windows system serves as a client to on-demand streaming media server in Linux system, while the network-card's packet loss of Linux system is used to realize packet loss retransmission mechanism of streaming media server. Firstly, this paper mainly describes the background and significance of the research, the development of streaming media technology and related knowledge of video codec technology. Then the relevant agreements and display technology of streaming media are introduced. And H264 video coding standard is expounded. The paper proposes the real time transmission scheme of H264 video and the appropriate loading format and packaging strategies. In this scheme, module designs are divided into two functional modules: server and client. The main functional module class for H264 video stream transmission is discussed. Finally, we analyze the reliability of streaming media server transmission, including the study of error control of QoS mechanism, the mechanism simulation of RTP packet's packet loss retransmission, the environment setup, and presentation of experimental phenomena.
