Gas leak has been one of the important reasons of industrial accidents, since the gas leak often occurs suddenly and the gas is colorless, people easily strayed into the spill area, result in gas poisoning. The main toxic components of gas is CO, the CO proportion of blast furnace gas is approximately 25% to 30%, and when the content of CO in the air is more than 1%, it will be life-threatening. Currently the wall-mounted gas alarm device and the portable gas alarm device is commonly used in industrial production, but single function and smaller scope of monitoring are their significant drawbacks. Although the bus-type gas detection and alarm system has been developed, because the actual production area is relatively large, the wired way cannot adapt to large-scale deployment. Through the analysis of existing gas alarm apparatus, a safety management system consist of gas alarm and regional positioning functions based on wireless sensor network is proposed in this paper.The system is divided into two layers. The first layer is sensor network based on Zig Bee, which is responsible for concentration data, personnel location data collection and device control information transmission. The network contains network coordinator, routers, fixed-function terminals and mobile-function terminal. The fixed- function terminal is connected to controlled electronic device and the mobilefunction terminal is responsible for sending data, receiving data and alarm reminder, the router is responsible for concentration alarms and forwarding data. While the network coordination is the core equipment of Zig Bee network, firstly responsible for the establishment and maintenance of Zig Bee network, and is connected to another layer through the serial port to send and receive data. Another layer of this system is the PC monitoring software, the data of Zig Bee sensor network through the serial is analysised, classified then stored into the database, and the needed data is displayed in the software interface meanwhile. For the device control, the message package is needed in order to control single device in the Zig Bee network.Firstly, this paper introduces the technical background and development status associated with the development of this system, and analyzes the disadvantages and limiting of existing gas monitoring system. Secondly, the overall design structure of this system is proposed, the reference for selection and use of appropriate focus technology is provided and the selection criteria of hardware required in this system is introduced. Thirdly, software design of Zig Bee network layer and a variety of message formats are described. Then the system software on the PC side is introduced briefly and part of the core code is displayed. Finally, this system is debugged and test in order to prove the feasibility and integrity of its gas alarm, regional positioning and other functions.
